Securing passenger credit card data is a major security responsibility. Under PCI-DSS guidelines, storing raw card data is highly restricted and subject to audit. Tokenization protects this data by replacing it with a secure token.
Secure Payment Lifecycles
When a traveler enters their card details, they are tokenized at the gateway level. The booking site only stores the token, which is useless to hackers if a database breach occurs. When it is time to charge the customer, the token is sent to the processor to execute the charge securely.
